Nice to Meet You!
Hello and welcome to this blog. My name is Laura and I am an Industrial Designer by degree but a dreamer at heart. I'm originally from the Dominican Republic but in 2016 I moved to Savannah, GA for college and 5 years later here we are! I've been obsessed with the idea of ditching my 9-5 job ( more like 7:30 - 5 with a 30 min commute) and doing what I truly love which is designing and creating things. So I'm going to let my fears go and actually give this a try.
I am currently married to Ryan Taylor Jordan (whom I refer to as Taylor) and own a home in Pooler, GA. We have 3 wonderful dogs and 2 cats.
We actually went and brought our bus back in June 2020 through Facebook Marketplace. We went back up to the Outer Banks in North Carolina to take a look at it and decided they price was right so we went back up 10 days later too bring our new bus back home. We ended up paying $2,600 for our bus which in my opinion it was a steal! It only has 27,000 miles on it and it made it all the way back to Savannah on a two day, 500 mile journey.
“Our bus is a 22ft 1994 International School Bus 7.3L Diesel that was previously used at a discipline academy in Virginia. We went with a short bus because it felt less intimidating than a full size bus and we liked the idea of having a more compact home on wheels”
The Dreaming Phase
I went to the Savannah College of Art and Design and if any of you know that school you know the importance of mood boards. They set the tone for a project and help me identify the key components I am envisioning.
I want the bus to have a modern boho feel. I will incorportate rattan, jute and natural in cerain areas as well as tile.
“The wood stove is one of the most important elements I wanted to include in the build. The goals is for the bus to feel like home and for it to be cozy and warm.”
Shutout to the awesome people who own the vans/buses featured on my mood board.

So, What is the Goal?
The bus, which will have a name by my next blog post, started as way for us to create something together and enjoy trips in the future. We both love nature and traveling so it made perfect sense. After a year of owning a bus we finally have reached a point were I can start working on it. I want to be as transparent as possible when it comes to finances, expectations and the difficulty within the projects. Future blog posts will include budgets, shopping lists and detailed information about the tools needed to complete each project.
The bus will be available for rent or possibly sale once it is finished. As I learn from this build I'd like to offer my skills to other people who are interested in owning an skoolie and want a custom build hassle free.
“If you made it this far I just want to say thank you for your time! I hope this blog can serve as help to other people starting their build or entertain those who are just along for the ride!”
